DAY 7

Leave: Farmington, New Mexico 7:45 AM
Arrive: Winslow, Arizona 6:18 PM
Weather: 37C (98F)
Mileage: 458 miles (737 km)

Another hot day driving through the dessert.

First stop was Mesa Verde Nat’l Park in Colorado where the Ancestral Puebla cliff dwellers made their homes in the side of cliffs in 550 A D for 750 years. There are 600 cliff dwellings. When we were there 27 years ago a ranger took us into the ruins but now they walk you past them.

Canyon De Chelly Nat’l Monument in Arizona was also home to cliff dwellers. People have lived in these canyons for 5000 years.

Getting excited to see the kids tomorrow. They are flying into Phoenix and we are meeting them in Sedona.

Scenery on drive between cliff dwellings

This rock formation is called Spider Rock

  1. Amazing landscapes, you never get tired of seeing it. Just wondering what you did 27 years ago that now they only let you walk past the cliff dwellings. Just saying.....
